Coles Group: Better Together and Together to Zero

As one of Australia's leading companies, Coles would like to created a better Australia for future generations.

So, they have launched their sustainability strategy under focus areas Together to Zero and Better Together.

Coles' customer wants to reduce packaging and easier to recycle the packaging. So, the Coles action for the customer is make a change for the packaging.

Their goals for the sustainable packaging are:

  1. All Coles Brand packaging will be 100% recyclable, reusable or compostable by 2025.

  2. Across Coles Brand packaging, there will be an average of 50% recycled content by 2025.

  3. All Coles Brand packaging will carry the Australian Recycling Label (ARL) by 2025.

  4. Phasing out problematic, and unnecessary single use plastics packaging by 2025.

Also, they have responsibility to minimize their environmental footprint as well as to mitigate the environmental and social impacts of climate change. Their concern is to overcome the climate change is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

They also have a target for the entire Coles group to divert 85% of solid waste from landfill by the end of 2025, while continuing their focus on reducing food waste.

Every Coles supermarket and distribution centre is connected with a food solution, it is something that they achieved at the end 2019. They collaborate with Secondbite which collects unsold, edible food directly from their supermarkets or organizes for local charities to collect it on its behalf.

And they collaborate with Foodbank which collects from their grocery distribution centres across Australia. They also work with their Australian suppliers to reduce food waste and increase overall crop yields by using produce, which typically would not be sold in stores.

Let's do it together for a better and sustainable environment!
